WINDOWS 8.1 HOW TO INSTALL VIRTUALBOX WINDOWS 8.1 MANUAL
Please check Google and the VirtualBox Manual before asking simple questions. PLUS a detailed description of the problem, what research you have done, and the steps you have taken to fix it. * Whether you have installed Guest Additions and/or Host Extensions (this solves 90% of the problems we see) * Whether you have enabled VT-x/AMD-V (applicable to all hosts running 6.1 and above) and disabled HyperV (applicable to Windows 10 Hosts) * The version of VirtualBox you are using This is just a friendly reminder in case you missed it. Is it possible to disconnect the virtual keyboard/mouse? Is it possible that they could interfere? I am not sure what other devices I can disconnect from the VM in order to check what's causing the hang. I found that this can occur when a USB device is plugged in during boot, so I tried disabling the USB controller on the VM in case that was interfering, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. However, after that fades away it comes back with the text "Getting Devices Ready" which stays on screen and never finishes. Now, the disk will boot and I get the Windows logo with the spinning icon. I was able to create a VHD from the disk and then load up Windows 8.1 installation in a Virtualbox VM torun a bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot as well as a bootrec /rebuildbcd which restored the disk to a bootable state. I thought I would use virtualisation to make this process easier. So, I needed to load up Windows 8.1 installation media to fix it.

At first I attempted to boot into the disk itself, but my BIOS didn't seem to recognise it as bootable media. So, I have an old SSD with a Windows 8.1 installation on it which I am trying to boot into. Virtual Box Guest Additions not installed Oracle VM Extension pack installed, version 6.1.16r140961
